The Society for Microscale Separations and Bioanalysis (SMSB) has selected Prof. Detlev Belder, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Leipzig, as the recipient of the 2020 SCIEX Microscale Separations Innovations Medal and Award for Current and Breakthrough Research in the Field of Electro-Driven Separations. The Medal Ceremony took place in September 2020, as part of a Special Award Plenary Session at the 36th International Symposium on Microscale Separations and Bioanalysis (MSB 2020) which, for the first time, took place online.
Prof. Belder obtained his PhD in analytical Chemistry at he University of Marburg, Germany, in 1994. He then carried out his postdoctoral fellowship at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals in Harlow, UK. in 1995, he became the Department Head of Separation Sciences at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. He then became Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Regensburg,Germany. Since 2007, he his Chair of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Leipzig, Germany. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy at the University of Leipzig between 2013 and 2016.
